BABY DEDICATION

We had a baby dedication at church yesterday.
One of the mothers sang to her baby.
When she was done singing this song,
little Joshua gave her the biggest smile.
Everyone in the audience went
awwwwwww!

He see's me in the morning,
Lifting him out of bed.
The sun comes with little warning,
A brand new day's ahead.

To the kitchen for some breakfast,
A plate of toasted bread, (creamy cereal)
A cup of milk just as expected, (bottle of milk)
Close your eyes and bow your head.

You can thank him for anything you want to,
For the flower's and the trees
And pray,Lord Jesus, make me,
A little boy on my knees.

He's Mommy's little helper.
Learning to comb his hair.
And loves his baby sister, (his older brother)
Though he doesn't always share.

A quarter in the bucket,
A memory verse or two,
Although he may not know it,
He's beginning to follow you.

You can thank him for anything you want to,
For your Daddy and for me.
And pray, Lord Jesus, make me,
A little boy on my knees.

As we teach our Son to serve the Lord, in every way,
Lord the most important thing is this that we now pray,
Lord, we thank you everything you give us, but most importantly,
We pray Lord Jesus, make our Son a little boy on his knees.

Lord we thank you for everything you give us, but most importantly
We pray, Lord Jesus, make our Son,
A little boy on his knees.
We pray that someday he'll become,
A young man on his knees.

I AM THANKFUL

November 8, 2009

I am thankful that I was priviledged to meet the MARTINS.
Tonight at the concert, their testimonies were as inspiring as their songs
and their singing was FABULOUS!
They were so transparent and humble.
I am so glad that I didn't miss it!

COME HEAR THE MARTINS TONIGHT

This is the MARTINS!
They are brother and sisters and their blend is AMAZING!
The doors open tonight at 5:30 PM and the concert
is at 6.
Tickets can be purchased at the door.
Cost: $8 for ages 13 and older.
$5 for children 12 and under.

They were so gracious to allow Alan  to take a picture
of me with them for my blog friends.
I was so excited to meet them.
They were so kind and gracious!

The service this morning was PHENOMINAL!
The first choir song was so GLORIOUS!
There was recognition of one of the Pastors for his service,
there was a baby dedication like none other I have seen.
After which the mother sang a song to her baby
entitled,
"Make our son a little Boy on his Knees."
The Brass Ensemble played a trumpet special.
There is something about trumpets
that herald in JOY!  I love them!
The MARTINS sang!
The pastor gave an AWESOME sermon,
then the mens' choir ended with a FABULOUS song!

Like Alan said,
"We got our money's worth this morning."
Not really, it was all FREE!

HOPE TO SEE YOU TONIGHT!

STORM WATCH

You know me, I am a great storm watcher,
tornado chaser, and earthquake monitorer.
I noticed a huge storm in the Northwest.
Even though they did not call it a hurricane,
it certainly has the looks of one.
It had the strength of a Cat 4.

I contacted our daughter who lives in Seattle
to see if she was affected by the storm.
Last night she heard a lot of thunder in the storms.
They usually do not have thunder in Seattle.

She forgot to mention is she felt the 5.3 earthquake
that hit off the coast of Oregon.
Evidently not, or she would have said something.
I know, I know,
it is only interesting to me.
I could watch the weather channel all day long!

I am thankful for my Facebook Friends.
It is so much fun to be involved in their
lives and to encourage them in their projects.

A YEAR OF FIRSTS

This is a year of firsts for our very special grandson, Wyatt.
This is the first year he has ridden on the big yellow bus to school.

And, he has lost his first tooth.

Aaaaaand, he ran for the office of Citizen of the Month and won!
Maybe this is some indication of his future.

Even though he lives far away,
we always enjoy seeing him through pictures.
We love him!

I AM THANKFUL

November 6

I am thankful that the God that I love and serve says
"thou shalt not kill,
and
to love your neighbor as yourself."

I AM THANKFUL

November 5

I am thankful for our girls' book study on Wednesday nights.
Our leader does a fabulous job of facilitating us.
I look forward to being with these girls every week.

YOU TOO, MISTER!

(This is Wyatt a few years ago.)

Ainsley tells a humorous story about Wyatt, which happened
a few years ago when Wyatt was about 3 or 4 years old.

She had belted both boys into their seats with their seatbelts in the van.
Dylan was a baby in his seat, and Wyatt was beside him.

Ainsley was giving Wyatt a good talking to about
something when Wyatt turned to baby Dylan and
said,  "That means you too, mister!"

We all howl with laughter when we remember this
story.  I thought of this story this morning as
I read Psalm 53:3

"Every one of them has turned aside;
They have altogether become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one."

and it should be added,
and that means You too, Mr Christian!
All of our righteousness is as filthy rags.
Only what is done in our lives through
the Spirit of God, will be rewarded.

God wants to reveal himself to the world
through our lives, but we must yield to
the guiding and filling of the Holy Spirit.

I AM THANKFUL

November 4

I am thankful for my family.
I heard from a good many of them yesterday
either by phone or e-mail.

FROST ON THE PUMPKIN AND ICE IN THE BIRDBATH

It is 31 degrees this morning!
There is ice in the birdbath, but not for long.
I am sure that when the sun gets to it,
it will disappear.

Have you thought about whether this winter is going to be mild
or harsh?  Usually by now people are looking for signs.
Here are a few humorous ones:

1. The Starlings chirp with a Minnesota accent.
2. Squirrels keep knocking at your door.
3. Your cat is taking your clothes off the line
and wearing them.
4. Ten Woodpeckers share the same tree.

5. Crickets are in your soup bowl.
6. Wooly worms are wearing orange
hazmat jackets.

Seriously, you can go to the Farmers Almanac
to read some that people have actually
observed.

FALL FLUFFING

I spent the majority of my day outside doing some fall cleaning.

I heard the city's leaf truck coming early this morning.
If I had known they were coming today,
I could have been ready, but no.
I quickly threw on a sweatshirt and headed
out the door.  I raked what little leaves we
have to the front curb.
I was so thankful that the leaf truck stayed
down at Nancy's house until I got my leaves out.
I must ask her what the holdup was.
Was she serving coffee or what???

The oriental grasses look so nice and give the birds some
protection in the wintertime.  But........
the winter winds blow the plumes all over the
neighborhood.

In order to keep peace with our fellow neighbors,
we cut down the ones that are the most offensive.
I was half way down these 9 foot grasses
when a bird flew out and scared me to death.
One of his Halloween tricks, I guess!

I cut the grasses in 9 to 10 inches pieces so
they would be easy to bag.  I filled two
barrels full.

It was the last nice day for this week.
Wind and rains are supposed to be coming in.

Our beautiful marigolds that we saved with
BABY POWDER,
are still huge and looking good.
After the next good freeze
they will have to be removed.

Hope your day was a pleasant one!

I AM THANKFUL

NOVEMBER 3

I am thankful that I slept like a log last night.
I cannot remember when I have slept so well.

I am thankful for my beautician.
Today she is giving me a haircut.

COFFEE CHAT CENTER

I walked in the door of our church this morning,
and was pleased to see that the Coffee Chat Center
 was surrounded with people.
The amount of people who drink coffee every Sunday
is growing.  Whether it is the autumn weather outside
or the warm atmosphere inside, we do not know, but
the number of people who hover around this table
each Sunday is growing.

These lovely ladies head up the team of workers
who set up the center every Sunday.
This morning they had an amazing, fall table display with
donuts for the taking.

We are delighted that these ladies are loving their ministry at
the CC Center. We really appreciate their willingness
to serve in this way.

I AM THANKFUL

NOVEMBER 1

Today I am thankful for our church.

Tickets can be purchased through the church
before the concert or at the door.
Cost:  $8 for ages 13 and older.

When you get there, look for me.
I would love to have you sit with me!

ORTHODOX CHURCH GREEK BAZAAR

One of the instructors who teaches for Alan got us some
tickets to their church's festival.
Alan likes Greek food so we left at 10:30 this morning
to pick up our lunch.  To our surprise and unlike last
year, there was no long line waiting.
We were in and out in a jiffy!

The menu we ordered was
Pastitsio - Baked squares of alternate layers of macaroni,
grated cheese and seasoned ground beet topped with a
rich cream sauce.

Yiaprakia - A special blend of rice, meat, onion, and
spices wrapped with tender grape leaves.

Chicken in Greek Sauce - Baked in a special Greek
tomato sauce with spices.

A Greek salad with Feta cheese

This lovely Greek girl waited on us.

When we got home we looked at the booklet they had
given us.  This homecoming queen sure did look like
our waitress.

THE DRIVE TO THE GREEK FESTIVAL

We were whizzing by some fences!

The Greek Orthodox Church south of town.

OCTOBER'S PARTY

October gave a party;

The leaves by hundreds came -

The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,

And leaves of every name.

The Sunshine spread a carpet,

And everything was grand,

Miss Weather led the dancing,

Professor Wind the band.

TRICK OR TREATERS

We had four Trick or Treaters tonight.
Two of them were some of our favorite munchkins
who live next door.  One was a kitty kat
and the other was a Chef.
Maybe he was one of the Iron Chefs?

TRICK OR TREAT TONIGHT

I laughed when I saw this cartoon,
even though it is pretty true.
I am glad I found my candy.
Now I am ready for tonight!
And, yes, there will be some left over, I am sure!

SNOW IN COLORADO

I am such a weather fanatic.
Look at the snow in Boulder, CO.

WRAPPING UP STORY

I had a wonderful day yesterday sitting around the
computer and watching Storyunfolding.
There was a chat room on the side that I was able
to participate in by posting my comments.
It was fun!
I took on a nickname so no one would
recognize me.  I figured if they knew I was
Ben's mom, they would in some way be
intimidated and hold back in their comments.

Then, I went to Twitter.com and looked to see
what everyone was twitting about.
Last night I went to a site of someone who
had been there and taken very good notes.
I copied all of them and filed them away.
The speakers were saying really good stuff.

I told Alan last night on our way to church
that my head felt like I could not take in
one more thing!  I just loved the entire day.

~~~~~
The picture below is a picture of the rose garden
in the front of our house.  This was taken last week.
I had to white out the edges because the fall
leaves did not go with the roses.
WHO IS TAYLOR MITCHELL?
I read on the news tonight that a Taylor Mitchell,
an up and coming singer age 19, and a
Canadian, was killed by coyotes.
I Googled Taylor Mitchell to see who she was.
I found her on YouTube,
but I also found THIS
Taylor Mitchell.
I think you will enjoy what she says.
A BIG DAY IN CHICAGO
Today is a big day in Chicago!
I plan to sit at my computer all day to watch the
interviews of the speakers.
This is an event for communicators that our son,
Ben, has been planning for over a year.
Ben has a lot of gifts, and he has used them
in planning this event.  He is a producer,
communicator, teacher, and writer.
The above picture is of Ben in the planning stages of STORY
as he looks at the facilities of the Paramount Theater in
Aurora, IL.
This is the inside lobby of the Paramount at Christmas time.
The above picture is of Ben on the left.
I don't remember the name of the man in the middle,
but the man on the right is Los and he will be
interviewing the speakers today.
So, I am gathering around my computer some things
I can do while watching the interviews.
I have gathered some sewing, some cleaning
materials so I can clean this room, and
some munchies.  =)
Here is the line up of speakers:
Ed Young - pastor of Fellowship Church in Grapevine, TX
Dave Gibbons - leader of the NewSong Global Alliance
Chris Seay - pastor of Ecclesia in Houston, TX
Nancy Beach - vice president of the arts for Willow Creek
John Ortberg - pastor of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church
Stacy Spencer - pastor of New Direction Church in Memphis
Mike Foster - author of Deadly Viper Character Assassins
Donald Miller - best-selling author of Blue Like Jazz
OUR GRANDSONS
Sweet Ainsley sent us a surprise last night!
She had Wyatt pick out a couple of pictures to send to us.
Baby Cody is the first picture.
Just look at that sweet smile on his face.
Then Wyatt chose this picture of him and Dylan.
They are two good looking boys.
Of course, we are not prejudice or anything!
Wyatt is in kindergarten this year and
Dylan is in pre-school.
Wyatt is the one whose picture I posted a few days ago
about getting the Citizenship Award.
We are so proud of him.
I bet Dylan gets lots of stickers because he is so willing to please.
We miss them so much!
DON'T CRY ON SUNDAYS
(The lady in black on the left front was a guest singer from N.Y.C.
She was a great singer and the choir did a great job as backup.
I wish I could post a picture of the children singing their song.
They had sticks with streamers on them and moved them as the
director moved hers.  It was so orderly and cute.)
As you know, Alan and I love our church.
We look forward to going and serving as greeters
each week.  Every Sunday before I leave the house,
I ask the Lord to fill me with His Spirit so that
the people I greet will feel especially blessed or
that the Spirit of the Living God will minister to
them through me.  Today was an interesting day.
All of the greeters who help us were in their places so I was
busy giving out letters with information to the designated
ones.  One girl caught my eye so I went over to her.
I asked her how she was doing.
She began to cry.
She asked if she may talk to me.
We went over to the sofas and sat down while she
poured out her heart to me.
I encouraged her by telling her what God says in his Word.
I told her what I knew about " riding out a storm."
We must have talked for a half hour.
She seemed encouraged and went to the auditorium.
As I stood up from the sofa and began moving towards
the Welcome Center, I was confronted by an angry
person. She spoke harshly to me as she reminded
me that she had specifically phoned me to tell me
that they would not be here in a certain month
and that I had not removed their names from
the greeter list for that time.
Before I could explain to her that when data is in
the computer, and it is a cyclical schedule, we do not
change it, but we get substitutes, and that  Alan and I are
always there to provide backup if we feel it is needed.,
her husband stormed up and said,
"WE CALLED YOU ABOUT THIS!"
I said, "Well, don't worry about it.
We will take care of it."
He said,
"I WON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!"
They walked off.
The most unusual thing happened to me!
I felt so good!
I stood there and thought,
"You know, Cheryl, in the past when people
yelled at you, you would sink into deep depression
whether you were guilty or not.
This strong loving feeling you are experiencing is
NOT YOU.  It has to be the LORD!"
"The angel of the LORD encamps around
all those who fear the LORD!"
(somewhere in the Psalms)
It was time for worship service to begin so I
entered the sanctuary looking for the widow
I try to sit beside each Sunday because she sits alone.
She is a very beautiful, gracious lady and I mean that sincerely.
Only just this morning as I talked a little more with her,
I realized that she has a problem with her speech.
Her nerves cause her to leave out some syllables
so I have to listen intently to her.  She has such
a sweet sweet spirit.
After the service is over, I always tell her to have
a wonderful week.  She drinks in my kindness with
the sweetest smile and a kind return.
I wonder if it is really Jesus sitting there?
I really do not know who she is.
In Lancaster County, you do not push yourself
on people too fast.
It was a wonderful service today.
There is so much to say about that, but
it would take a whole different blog.
After the service
Alan and I hung out in the lobby chit chatting
with whomever.  My prayer partner came
up to me and handed me a note.
It had the names of gluten free books on it.
She has only recently been diagnosed with
Celiac's Disease.
The Lord knew all of this last year when He
put us together that we would have that in common.
  She is so different from me.
She is from N. J. and I am from Ohio.
Our cultures couldn't be more different.
Jesus is our common bond and now we
are sisters in Christ and love each other.
She returned my gift bag of goodies
saying, "I couldn't eat a thing!
We laughed together.
Because I am gluten intolerant too,
it didn't offend me.  I understood perfectly.
I just took her a bag of gluten free goodies!
She called me when I got home to thank me.
I asked our friends to come for dinner,
He said,  "No, we have a better offer!"
I said, "Okay, be that way!"
We laughed!
They did come in the afternoon because
he wanted to talk business with Alan.
I popped a peach cobbler in the oven,
and they had brought ice cream.
This day was an awesome day because the
Lord was in it.  Wonder if all Christians who
went to church would ask the Holy Spirit
to fill them.  What do you think would happen?
(Be filled with the spirit and don't cry on Sundays
or any other day, for that matter.)
A WONDERFUL STORY
This is a wonderful story that I found.
I guarantee that you will need a Kleenex
before it is over.
A MEME FROM ROSEZILLA
The lovely Rosezilla at
shared a meme where she had gotten five words from someone else,
 then wrote what they made her think of,
thereby revealing something of herself to us.
She invited me to play, and sent me my five words.
Here are my five words.
REST
That is what my body demands around 8:30 every night.
I get up very early so I begin wearing down about this
time every night.
HAPPY
Today is Friday and that always makes me happy.
First, the weekend gives Alan two days at home,
 and we get to do things together.
Secondly, church is on Sunday, and we love going.
TIME
I take time everyday to read my Bible and pray.
Reading my Bible is God talking to me, and
praying is me talking to God.
RAIN
It is raining outside my window right now.
I really don't mind.
I am thankful for the shelter and warmth
of my beautiful home.
HOBBY
I love to blog.
If you know me,
I am not much of a conversationalist.
When I am with friends, they usually
do all the talking.  Now, that I blog,
I get to say something.
Nothing profound, but something.
Thank you, Rosezilla!
If anyone wants to play along,
ask me for five words and I will think up some
good ones for you.
OVER THE BACKYARD FENCE
Yesterday was a wonderfully warm day so I took advantage
of the great weather and did a little work outside.
I cut down all the hosta on the north side of the house,
and spreaded mulch to spiffy up the beds for winter.
I cut down all the Snow on the Mountain that
threatens to take over the pergola every summer,
and I spreaded mulch there and put an extra
thick cover over my Jewel of Tibet bulbs.
As I was walking around the yard I happened
to look behind the neighbor's fence, and
there stood these lovely maple trees.  I had
not seen them when I was taking pictures
before today.  I quickly ran and got my camera
because they probably will not be there tomorrow.
CITIZEN OF THE MONTH
Our grandson, Wyatt, got the
CITIZEN OF THE MONTH award!
He is as proud as peaches of this award.
I not only can tell by that big smile,
but for the fact that he posed for the picture.
Normally you have to chase him down.
We are so proud of Wyatt.
He is a good little boy,
so I am sure that he earned
this award.
Congratulations, Wyatt!
You are the BEST!
A GLOWING ROMANCE
I love this picture!
This is my friend, Jean, and her husband.
You can read how well the Lord is taking care of them
HERE.
It is a great story of how the Lord cares for His own.
THE BIG SPOT LIGHT
When I went for a walk yesterday
I took my camera along.
I saw no colored leaves anywhere.
In the afternoon the sun began to shine.
I went for a walk again.
I had not noticed the leaves the first time around.
It was as though the sun put a spot light on the maple trees.
It was delightful!
